Vintage cushions are created by repurposing beautifully aged parts from old hand-knotted rugs. Because old rugs may be partially worn but contain sections that are in beautiful condition, the rugs are divided into pieces to make cushions – or completely new rugs with a patchwork method. Sometimes the appearance of the old rug is kept intact in the cushion, sometimes it’s modified, for example by cutting the pile shorter, fading colors or overdyeing the entire surface with a new shade. Through this process, valuable materials can be preserved and given a new life.
